Introducing Marina Crowe

Marina relocated from the Midlands to York over 30 years ago and began practicing Pilates as part of her wellness and fitness routine. Following a lower back injury, it was the numerous benefits of attending regular classes at MI Studio during her recovery that triggered her passion for Pilates and desire to train as a Pilates instructor with Janet Wood.

Now fully accredited as a Balanced Body Pilates instructor, Marina enjoys sharing her passion for Pilates with people of all abilities.

  1. What do you love most about teaching Pilates?
Seeing the improvement to clients’ own wellbeing and movement; whether it’s better flexibility, range of movement or purely the mental re-setting having spent an hour focussing on their physical sensations.
  2. What are the top 3 benefits of Pilates for you that enhance everyday life?
Improved posture and greater flexibility, my childhood love for gymnastics – many moves of which I can practise through Pilates…although maybe not with quite as much finesse, and the mind-body connection in practising Pilates, sensing and focussing on my own body movement using the breath to improve strength.
  3. How do you like to spend a Sunday?
Catching up – whether planning activities for the week ahead, getting jobs done, doing a cardio workout at the gym or catching up with friends and family over good food. I can also easily get lost in a good book or film, especially crime or psychological thrillers.
  4. Tell us something that will surprise us about you
I have a passion for everything Italian since my wedding in Rome many years ago. My dream is to own a Pilates retreat in Tuscany or Umbria, taking in the beautiful scenery, culture, food and climate as well as having Andrea Boccelli as a potential neighbour popping round from time to time (pipe dream, I know)!
  5. What do you love most about the world of wellness?
The world of wellness enables me to keep evolving as there’s always something new and exciting to learn and to positively benefit from, leading to a more fulfilling life.  If I can help other people improve their own sense of wellness too along the way, then that makes me feel especially happy and rewarded.

Introducing Liz Holmes

Liz joined MI Studio in 2019 following 20 years as a Pilates Instructor and role as Spa Director in various establishments throughout the UK. Liz met Janet in York at just the right time when she was keen to get back to teaching and now welcomes both new and existing clients to the studio for her Monday morning reformer class (8am).

“I am so pleased to have come to MI studio where I can get back to what I love doing and work with someone like Janet, who has so much knowledge to glean from” says Liz

Liz teaches Pilates Group Mat and Reformer Classes and is available for 1:1 Pilates Tuition. We asked Liz a few questions about her passion for Pilates and she’s even shared an interesting fact you may never have guessed…

  1. What do you love most about teaching Pilates?
It’s sociable, it challenges me to come up with new interesting class plans and I get to do it too, which I love more than anything.
  2. What are the top 3 benefits of Pilates for you that enhance everyday life?
Pilates helps me move more easily, sleep better and keep to my ideal weight (well, mostly!)
  3. How do you like to spend a Sunday?
My husband Nick and I are pretty sociable and love a lunch out with friends, often after a long walk with our terrier, Jacko
  4. Tell us something that will surprise us about you
    I once auditioned for X-Factor
  5. What do you love most about the world of wellness?
Wellness for me is all about balance.  Trying different types of exercise, appreciating all the good things in life and eating well without taking it all too seriously.
